Fill Your Mouth with JESUS

Do you know that the name of Jesus is not spoken in the deepest, darkest places on earth where evil dwells?  It is not even used as a curse word by demons.  Why is that?

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2:9-11

The name of Jesus holds great power and authority, especially when in the mouth of a believer.

In Acts Chapter 4, just after the day of Pentecost, Peter and John were arrested at the temple in Jerusalem.  They had stirred up a crowd by healing a beggar who was paralyzed for over 40 years.  Everyone was glorifying God as the man was walking, leaping and praising God.

The authorities asked, “by what power or by what name have you done this?”

Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit told them…

Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

The authorities were concerned that these events would spread so they “from now on they speak to no man this name.” (Acts 4:17)

The authorities commanded them not to speak at all or teach in the name of Jesus.  (Acts 4:18)

With these threats, Peter and John were released.  Immediately, they went back to the Christians and told them what had happened.

So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God,

Who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, who by the mouth of Your servant David have said:

‘Why did the nations rage,
And the people plot vain things?
The kings of the earth took their stand,
“And the rulers were gathered together
Against the Lord and against His Christ.’

“For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together to do whatever your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.  Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were ALL filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

How many times did you glorify the Father by speaking the name of Jesus today?  It isn’t just a name to be used in church or with other Christians.  It is a name to be spoken in the home, at work and in our communities.

If you are shy, start with a whisper. Then add your thanksgiving to it, like this…

Thank you, Jesus!

Speak it in the grocery store.  Speak it in the library.  Speak it in the park. With much practice, it will fall off your tongue easily in open conversation.

I challenge you today to speak the name of Jesus.
